a puddle on a boulder

Mountainmere

I found this little puddle atop a rough boulder that was being used as flood control along a stream beside a footbridge. It was not an attractive boulder, but it had rained recently, and many things just look better wet. (Maybe that’s one reason I like rain.)

And, of course, I thought it looked like a lake on top a mountain, so I shot it to see if I could do something with it. In the almost-final version, there were a few sticks in the background behind the “mountain” that were in the way of the illusion, so I “photoshopped” them out. (Actually, I use GIMP. It’s free.)

On Flickr, this is one of my most viewed photos, so it must at least be intriguing.

What the camera saw:
mountainmere, as shotThe water is green because of the reflection from the trees. I wanted to get the light on the “lake” right, and this is just the way it worked out.

What a bystander would see:
mountainmere, bystander photoThe boulder is in the middle. As you can tell from the stream, this was taken on a different day, but you get the idea. It doesn’t look like anything special.
