a long shapely hole in the side of a tree

Cavern 3

I have a series of these “caverns.” I didn’t plan it that way, but it seems that big holes in living wood sometimes make good pictures–if you can find “the right place to stand.” So it just kept happening.

The shape here is almost elegant–at least for a hole, and this number is easily the best one so far. Yet I almost didn’t take it–just a gaping hole in the side of an ugly ole tree. But, why not?

While cleaning it up at home, I turned it sideways–really just to make it easier to work with. It fit on the screen better. Also, I had it downside up until the very end, when I thought it might look better the other way. And what a difference that made!

Now it looks like you could just walk on in and start exploring.
