This is a kind of photographic art I call “phantasy” (“fantasy,” spelled with the “ph” from photographic). These are color-modified photographs–like paint by numbers where you use the “wrong” colors, but they are not changed so much that they become something very different. (I have another name for that.) They do take on a fantastical appearance–like having purple plants, in this case.
I shot the original because it seemed to have potential–even though it was just an overgrown drainage ditch. After working with it in the original colors, I thought it was “just OK,” so tried making it a phantasy.
It took a while to get right, but I like it much better this way–especially the way you seem to be peeking through the dark foreground elements into a rather ethereal, private world, where anything might be hiding or playing.
