purslane, thriving in a hole in the sidewalk where an old steel post once stood

Where the Sign Post Was

A purslane plant (with seedlings) grows in a hole in the sidewalk with the buried, rusty stub of a steel sign post.

–Purslane. Once you know what to look for, you’ll notice it everywhere.

This photo is part of new series I’ve been working on called, “Life on the Edge.” Life is tough. It appears, survives, and sometimes flourishes “on the edge”–where conditions are far from ideal. This can be encouraging, but also sobering, since life on the edge is often hard.

What a bystander would see:
where the sign post was, bystander photoI took this some time later, and the plants have grown a lot–but at least you can see them clearly.
